RAM Racing has added a second car to its 2024 British GT Championship plans, confirming a maiden assault on the GT4 class with Harry George and Luca Hopkinson.
The Silverstone squad will again link up with Mercedes-AMG, continuing a relationship that stretches back to the team's British GT debut in 2015. While RAM has previously run AMG GT4 machinery in GT Cup and Creventic, this will be its first time doing so in British GT.
George is set for his second season in the series after contesting the 2023 campaign with Enduro Motorsport. Starting out with a McLaren Artura, the squad switched to AMG machinery at Portimão and immediately earned an overall GT4 podium, as well as Silver class victory.
"The guys at RAM are next level," said George. "The attention to detail and preparation are second to none, so we know we’re going to have the car to get results right from the start.
"Last year was a bit of a learning curve as it was my first in British GT, and I had a change of team-mate and a change of car from the McLaren to the Mercedes-AMG, but things really started to click toward the end of the year.
"Working with Luca so far has been great. We’ve gelled quickly and he’s already showing strong pace, so I think we can aim high this season.”
At 17, Hopkinson is set to be among the youngest drivers on the British GT grid. The Anglo-American racer has spent the past two seasons competing in Ginetta Juniors, placing 10th last term with a pair of podiums to his name.
"This a big step up," admitted Hopkinson, "but I’ve seen what other drivers in the same position have achieved since going into GT4 and I have no doubt I can go on to be just as successful.
"British GT is the next logical step for my career and is probably the most competitive championship in the country. Of course there’s a bit of pressure being one of the youngest drivers on the grid, but there’s no reason I can’t go in and compete on the same footing as everybody else.
"I get on really well with Harry and think we’ll be a great pairing. I’m looking to learn as much as I can from him, but we’re going into the season with eyes on wins and the championship.”
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 effort will run alongside RAM's new BMW M4 GT3 programme, which features an unchanged driver line-up of John Ferguson and Raffaele Marciello.
