Breakell Racing has revealed plans to make its British GT debut at this season's Silverstone 500. The Lancashire-based squad will compete for GT4 Pro-Am honours, with Harley Haughton and Carl Garnett sharing a Mercedes-AMG at the blue riband event.
“The British GT Championship is the pinnacle of UK motorsport at the moment,” said team principal James Breakell. “It’s been an ambition for a long time to get on the grid, so to finally get a programme together is hugely exciting for us.
“We’ve got two years of experience with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 and we know it really well inside and out,” he added. “We’re confident we can put a fast car on track and that we have a driver line-up in Harley and Carl that can be a competitive force in the Pro-Am ranks.”
Like the team, both drivers will get their first taste of British GT competition at the three-hour enduro. A race winner in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Haughton previously entered last year's Nürburgring 24 Hours with the Breakell outfit.
Garnett makes the step up to British GT having previously competed in one-make sprint competition, twice finishing as runner-up in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup before joining the Ginetta GT Championship with Breakell last term.
The pair got their first race experience in Breakell's AMG GT4 by contesting the recent British Endurance Championship round at Donington Park, leaving the Leicestershire track with a class podium.
“Our first run out in the Mercedes went well and was a great opportunity to get some race mileage before our British GT debut,” said Haughton. "It was a pleasure working with the Breakell Racing team again and we made some positive steps with the car set-up. I can’t wait to get back in the car again at Silverstone.”
Garnett added: “British GT has been an ambition since starting in Ginettas back in 2019, so I’m delighted to get the opportunity to do it. I’m heading in with no expectations, I just want to enjoy the experience and put in the best performance possible.”
The Breakell team plans to follow up its maiden appearance with further British GT outings later in the year. Meantime, additional Silverstone 500 entries will be revealed next week.
