Sky Tempesta Racing returns to the Silverstone 500 – British GT’s showpiece, three-hour event – next weekend armed with its new Ferrari 296 GT3.
The series’ 2023 Silver-Am runner-up Chris Froggatt will contest the same class but with a new co-driver in the shape of former British GT racer, Alexander West.
Ferraris were a fundamental part of GT3’s formative years in Britain but have become an increasingly rare sight in recent seasons. Indeed, the previous-generation 488 last contested the championship back in 2020 when the Italian factory squad, AF Corse – which now oversee Sky Tempesta’s entry – appeared at the majority of rounds.
Sky Tempesta and Froggatt, meanwhile, challenged for British GT’s Silver-Am title with McLaren last year but have collectively shifted focus and manufacturer for their Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS title defence. That began with a fourth-place class finish just under two weeks ago at Paul Ricard.
“I’m very happy to be back in the British GT paddock, and especially at my favourite British circuit,” said Froggatt, who missed out on 2023’s Silver-Am crown by just one point. “And I am also looking forward to sharing the 296 GT3 with Alex, who was on the opposite side of our British GT garage last year. I feel like we have a good foundation from which we can challenge the other Silver-Am crews.”
West added: “It is great being back in British GT for my favourite race of the season at Silverstone. Having previously raced the fantastic 488 GT3 I am really looking forward to trying the latest Ferrari with Sky Tempesta.”
They will face stiff opposition from a GT3 Silver-Am field that is set to grow considerably from the record number seen at Oulton Park, while more than 40 entries are expected across the GT3 and GT4 classes.
