> Porsche returns to GT4 ranks with reigning British Endurance champs
Newly crowned British Endurance champions Bal Sidhu, Josh Steed and Xentek Motorsport will make their British GT debuts at Donington Park next weekend.
The Pro-Am crew are racing the same Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport with which they claimed four class wins in five races to secure the BEC crown on Donington’s National layout earlier this month.
But that wasn’t the first success for Sidhu with Xentek: the same combination also won the Ginetta GT5 Challenge Am class crown last year and currently race the Cayman in Porsche Sprint Challenge GB.
“I’m really excited to be getting the chance to race in the British GT Championship for the first time,” said Sidhu. “I’ve enjoyed making the step up to GT4 competition this season with Xentek and getting lots of experience racing in the Cayman. After our success together in BEC, I’m thrilled to be making this next step with Josh and we’re hoping to put in a competitive showing at Donington Park.”
Steed and Xentek are also former GT5 Challenge overall champions, a title they won together in 2021.
“This is an incredible opportunity for us all to take the next step up the GT ladder,” said the 22-year-old. “I have kept a keen eye on British GT for many years and I’m absolutely buzzing to have the opportunity to compete on the most competitive GT grid in the UK. The team has shown exceptional performance this year in BEC to claim the GT4 title and I’m certain we can carry over the same efforts into British GT!”
The Simply ECO-backed Cayman is the first Porsche to contest British GT4 since Team Parker Racing’s entry last year. It is also the 10th manufacturer represented on Donington’s GT4 entry, which already features McLaren, Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, BMW, Lotus, Ginetta, Toyota, Ford and Audi.
Xentek team principal Christopher Richards added: “We’re delighted to be making our debut in the British GT Championship. It’s an incredibly competitive series and we’re excited to be challenging ourselves against some of the top GT teams and drivers in Europe. Bal and Josh deserve this opportunity after their brilliant performances in BEC and we’re excited to see how they get on in British GT.”
