Ferrari will make its long awaited full-time British GT Championship return this year thanks to Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin and Spirit of Race.
The 296 GT3, which features Cameron’s signature green colours and is run by AF Corse UK, becomes the first of 2025’s entries to be announced.
The same driver and team combination was also responsible for Maranello’s last British GT3 start back in 2020 when Cameron and Griffin contested the majority of events.
Sky Tempesta’s 296, also run by AF Corse UK, was scheduled to compete at Silverstone last year but was withdrawn following a practice accident. 2025’s season opener at Donington should therefore be the first time since Snetterton five years ago that a Prancing Horse has graced British GT3’s grid.
It will also mark an incredible milestone for Cameron and Griffin who will have raced all five Ferrari GT3 models – including the previous 488, 458 Italia, F430 Scuderia and first-generation F430 – together in British GT. Their first stint came with MTECH in 2009-13 before joining Spirit of Race in 2017.
The pair have scored six wins together and claimed a best championship finish of third in 2010. They were also fourth in the two following seasons.
Their partnership extends far beyond British GT, however. Highlights include FIA WEC and European Le Mans Series campaigns, as well as several 24 Hours of Le Mans and Spa outings over almost 20 years.
They can also call on experience of the 296 LMGT3 from ELMS last season when the same duo plus David Perel won at Paul Ricard.
“There aren’t too many places we haven’t raced a Ferrari together, but it all began in British GT and I’m looking forward to being back in the paddock this year,” said Cameron. “We didn’t quite manage to win with the 488 but very much intend to give the 296 its first victory in the UK. It’s an unknown quantity here, which could play to our advantage.”
Griffin, meanwhile, remains sixth on British GT’s all-time winners list thanks to the eight class victories he scored prior to claiming six more outright with Cameron.
“We know the car, we know the team and we certainly know each other!” he said. “We have to get up to speed on the Pirellis but otherwise we are really hoping to make a splash this year with what is a very capable car. That’s proven by the 296 GT3 claiming 100 wins all over the world in its first season of competition last year. We’d dearly like to add to that tally and also improve on our third place championship finish from 2010.”
Silverstone hosts British GT’s media day on March 21 ahead of the season opener at Donington on April 5-6.
