British GT Championship reveals new-look 2026 calendar

A new-look, streamlined schedule will underpin Season 34 of the British GT Championship in 2026.

The calendar, which was revealed during SRO Motorsports Group’s annual press conference ahead of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, features the same six venues as this year. However, and in line with preventative cost-saving measures, each will hold just one event.

Removing one of Donington’s two rounds also sees British GT’s three-hour Silverstone 500 showpiece open the campaign in late April. Not since 2001 has the circuit hosted Round 1.

A visit to Oulton Park follows, with two one-hour races continuing to be held across the late May Bank Holiday weekend. This move was welcomed by teams and drivers earlier this year.

Another popular destination, Spa-Francorchamps, also retains its spot the week before the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa – logistically advantageous for teams that also contest either the world’s biggest GT race or GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club.

Snetterton’s sprint races follow in mid-August before Donington and Brands Hatch swap places, just as they did in 2023.

Media day’s date and destination will be confirmed in due course.

British GT has enjoyed a sold-out entry in recent years. However, the drop in GT4 numbers at the start of 2025 prompted championship organisers, SRO Motorsports Group, to conduct a thorough cost-saving assessment. Reducing the calendar from seven to six events is the first measure designed to reduce costs and boost grid numbers, and especially within the GT4 category. Others will be announced at a later date.

Lauren Granville, British GT Championship Manager: “We understand this announcement will come as a surprise to many, but reducing the number of events is a necessary reaction to the situation that British GT and other series have encountered this year. This and other measures are preventative actions that aim to reduce 2026 budgets and avoid further grid declines. They will be reassessed once numbers return to a suitable level.”
