+ Result, Free Practice Donington Park
Orange/JMH’s McLaren topped a heavily disrupted opening free practice session at Donington Park, with two red flags and an early finish preventing anybody from beating Marcus Clutton’s best.
In GT4, Seb Morris and Ed McDermott bounced back from a difficult end to Thursday testing to set the pace.
When the lights went green for the opening session of the Donington Decider weekend, Sandy Mitchell was fastest out of the blocks in Barwell Motorsport’s #78 Lamborghini, before Clutton put the #67 McLaren 0.3s clear just before the first red flags flew when Joe Wheeler suffered a nasty accident down the Craner Curves that led to a lengthy stoppage to recover the #88 Mahiki Racing Ginetta.
Running resumed with just over 20 minutes remaining, but was soon halted for a second time when Ravi Ramyead’s Century BMW and Rupert Williams’ Jolt Racing McLaren clashed. With more cleanup work to be done, the session was halted early, sealing the results.
Sven Müller and Nick Jones wound up second in the Team Parker Racing Porsche, ahead of Mitchell and Alex Martin. Title-chasers Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss were fourth for 2 Seas, with Mike Price and Callum Macleod rounding out the top five in their Optimum McLaren.
Morris was the last to improve in GT4, putting the #12 Team Parker Mercedes-AMG that had suffered a heavy hit during testing but was repaired across Friday top of the timesheets. Phil Keen topped the early times in the sister AMG, before Luke Garlick took a turn out front in the #69 Mahiki Ginetta before the first stoppage.
Owen Hizzey briefly put the MKH Aston Martin top when running resumed, but Morris struck right before the session was called early.
Pre-Qualifying is scheduled for 12:00.
