Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport has confirmed that Joe Wheeler will partner James Townsend this year.
The team also revealed its livery for the upcoming campaign after previously announcing its Aston Martin GT4 entry back in late January.
Wheeler enters his fourth season in the championship after previously racing Ginettas and Lotuses for Assetto Motorsport, Toro Verde and Mahiki Racing. It was with the latter, at Donington last year, that the 22-year-old first partnered Townsend who is now embarking on his second full-season of British GT.
“I can’t wait for the season to start with Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport,” said Wheeler. “I know James well from our time together previously in British GT and with Fox being a proven race-winning British GT team in both GT4 and GT3, I don’t think we could be in a stronger position.”
Townsend is one of Fox Motorsport’s most successful drivers, having been a class winner in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Ginetta GT4 Supercup and GT Cup and a podium-finisher in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. He previously contested British GT in 2023, three times finishing on the GT4 Pro-Am podium, and made a one-off return at last year’s Donington Park finale with Wheeler.
“It’s fantastic to welcome Joe to Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport for the 2026 season,” said team principal Paul McNeilly. “He and James know each other well from having driven in the same British GT team previously so we know already that they have a strong working relationship. We’ll use the time we have pre-season to get both drivers used to the Aston Martin so we can start the season in the strongest position possible.”
The combination hits the track for the first time at Silverstone this Thursday. British GT’s media day follows at the same venue on March 31 before the three-hour Silverstone 500 opens the 2026 campaign in late April.
