Danny Gower maintained his 100% TORA British GT Winter Series record at Silverstone on Sunday by winning both races aboard the LimitlessRacingTeam McLaren 12C GT3.
The dry qualifying session was exceptionally close, even if Gower continued his dominance from Brands Hatch by lining up on pole. However, his McLaren was just a tenth quicker than the F4H Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan driven by Dan Nyman, while James Brown’s Lanan Kaido Allstars HCR Viper and Tyler Jones’ Bentley made it four different manufacturers on the first two rows. The top-seven were also covered by just one second.
A deluge before the green flag lap ensured treacherous conditions for the opening race of the day, with drivers from all four lobbies reporting large areas of standing water around the circuit. Not that the conditions especially bothered Gower who, after easing clear at the start, cruised to a third win of the campaign.
Further back, Brown managed to sneak past Nyman in the early stages before the top-three successfully negotiated the tricky conditions until the chequered flag.
The track had dried out in time for race two, but the result was exactly the same courtesy of another Gower masterclass.
That meant all eyes were on the race-long six-car battle for second. Brown looked to be in a strong position for Lanan before a tussle with Zach Taylor’s Red Bull Lamborghini resulted in the Viper being spat off at Stowe.
But it was the battle between Nyman’s Lamborghini and the Bentley of Jones that ultimately decided the podium finishers, while Brown performed minor heroics in his Viper to charge back up to fourth.
In GT4, honours ended even between McLaren and Aston Martin.
After dominating at Brands Hatch, LMR’s 570S contingent was a driver light at Silverstone with Hoch racing elsewhere. However, team-mate Josh Sampoll was able to hold off Adam Watson’s SuperRacing Generation AMR V8 Vantage throughout the opener, while Double B Racing claimed third on their Winter Series debut.
Watson then took revenge in the dry second race to beat Sampoll and another V8 Vantage driven by Griptek Performance’s Phil Reed.
The final round of this year’s Forza Motorsport 6-based TORA British GT Winter Series takes place at Spa-Francorchamps on November 27.
