Gamble subs for Century’s Simpson at Rockingham

Ginetta GT4 SuperCup front-runner George Gamble will make his British GT4 Championship debut alongside Century Motorsport’s Anna Walewska at Rockingham this weekend.

In a change to the event’s previously announced provisional entry list, the 20-year-old will fill the seat vacated by Ginetta factory driver Mike Simpson who has been called away to contest the clashing V de V round taking place at Portimao in Portugal.

Gamble is a former Ginetta GT5 Challenge champion and currently sits third in the Yorkshire firm’s GT4 SuperCup standings thanks to two victories in the opening six rounds.

He joins a package that has already shown promise in 2017, with Simpson securing Century’s #111 G55 a class pole at British GT’s Oulton Park season opener two weeks ago. Equally, Walewska and then team-mate Nathan Freke finished first on the road at Rockingham last season before being excluded post-race.

Gamble, who’s drive is being supported by long-time backer Steve Perez and Global Brands, has fond memories of the British GT paddock after winning the championship-supporting Ginetta GT5 Challenge title in 2014.

“It’s great to be returning to the SRO paddock on the British GT grid. The last time I raced as part of this package I claimed the Ginetta GT5 Challenge title, so I’m hoping to come back with much the same form!” he said.

“The Ginetta G55 GT4 is an immense machine to drive, and I’ve been on the pace in the opening rounds of the SuperCup, so here’s hoping I can bring home some silverware for Steve and the team at Global Brands.”

First practice gets underway at 09:25 local time on Saturday, while Sunday’s two-hour race - which is live on Front Runner TV - gets underway at 13:10 local time.
