British GT Championship points leader Phil Keen headed a Barwell Motorsport one-two-three in second practice at Spa-Francorchamps, while Ebor GT’s Matthew Graham topped the GT4 times for the second session running.
FP2 was quite a bit slower than the morning’s first session, with Keen’s 2m20.475s benchmark more than a second down on Callum Macleod’s FP1 effort. Nevertheless, it was still sufficient to put the #33 Lamborghini he shares with Jon Minshaw 0.271s clear of team-mate Sam Tordoff and a similar margin ahead of Patrick Kujala in Barwell’s race-by-race Huracan GT3.
TF Sport were best of the rest in fourth and fifth, Jonny Adam’s late lap good enough to finish 0.6s down on Keen and 0.4s clear of team-mate Jon Barnes in the sister Aston Martin.
The sole remaining Ferrari 488 driven by Kessel Racing pair Piti Bhirombhakdi and Carlo van Dam was a further two tenths back, while the two Mercedes-AMGs completed the top-eight - AMDtuning.com's example driven by Ryan Ratcliffe and Lee Mowle finishing ahead of Richard Neary and Adam Christodoulou’s Team ABBA with Rollcentre Racing example.
FP1 pace-setter Callum Macleod claimed 10th with co-driver Ian Loggie, while their Team Parker Racing team-mates Rick Parfitt Jnr and Seb Morris - on pole at Spa 12 months ago - were only 13th.
GT4 was once again dominated by Ebor GT’s Maserati GranTurismo MC which claimed class top spot for the second practice session running. Matthew Graham once again set the car’s fastest lap - a 2m33.996s - this time with 15 minutes of the hour-long session remaining.
That was enough to see off HHC Motorsport’s Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton - who set their Gientta’s fastest time on the final tour - by 0.412s. That late improvement knocked erstwhile leaders UltraTek/RJN down to third by just 0.010s, although Martin Plowman once again demonstrated what the Nissan 370Z can do after finishing second in the morning’s earlier session.
The first of Autoaid/RCIB Insurance Racing’s G55s was up next, Jake Giddings and Matt Chapman finishing 0.9s down on Graham’s time and just 0.013s ahead of Macmillan AMR’s William Phillips and Jan Jonck whose Aston Martin made it four different manufacturers inside the top-five.
Century Motorsport’s Anna Walewska and Mike Simpson were just 0.021s further back, Tolman Motorsport ended up first of McLaren’s runners in seventh, and Academy Motorsport’s V8 Vantage rounded out the top-eight.
Qualifying for tomorrow’s two hour-long British GT races at Spa-Francorchamps gets underway at 16:15 local time this afternoon.
