A host of British GT debutants will join the GT4 grid at Brands Hatch this weekend as the 2017 season enters its final straight.
This year’s penultimate round sees In2Racing field a new driver pairing aboard its #14 McLaren 570S in the shape of Daniel McKay and William Goff, while Chris Milford will race Autoaid/RCIB Insurance Racing’s #63 Ginetta G55.
Milford, quite possibly the first ever British GT driver to have grown up racing karts in Vietnam, currently competes in the VAG Trophy with Team HARD but makes the switch to its Ginetta alongside fellow Silver-rated driver Matt Chapman this weekend following his recent test aboard the squad’s BTCC car.
“I'm very excited to be driving for Autoaid/RCIB Insurance Racing in British GT,” he said. “Brands Hatch will be the highest-profile race I’ve done to date; I’ve not stopped preparing for it since I found out I’d be driving.
“Obviously I’m looking to compete with the top guys, the more seasoned drivers. But with a year of racing already under most of their belts I know it will be tough, even if it shouldn’t take me too long to get up to speed.”
Meanwhile, In2Racing’s #14 McLaren remains in the Pro/Am class after pairing Goff and McKay together for the first time. The latter’s career began racing Scottish Legends before joining Porsche Carrera Cup GB with In2Racing in 2014. They remained together for three seasons before the Scot switched to Redline Racing at the start of 2017.
Goff’s background is also in Porsches - he won the domestic Carrera Cup’s Pro/AM 2 class title in 2012 and was McKay’s In2Racing team-mate in 2014 - before taking a step back from modern motorsport at the end of that season.
“We are very pleased to be handing Daniel and Will their British GT debuts at Brands Hatch this weekend at what is arguably the UK’s best circuit,” said team principal Nick Dudfield. “We have worked with both drivers before, and they also know each other from 2014, so naturally we are excited to see how they fare during what will be Daniel’s first taste of GT4 machinery and Will’s return to modern motorsport after a lengthy break.”
They won’t be GT4’s only debutants this weekend, though. Successful Lotus Cup and Ginetta GT4 Supercup squad Rob Boston Racing makes the jump to British GT with a Ginetta G55 GT4 for Jason Baker and Adam Gore, who are also making their first appearances in the championship.
Gore previously raced with In2 in the Lotus Cup UK Supersport Championship, while Baker competes in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup with an RBR-prepared G55.
