Barwell Motorsport’s Phil Keen produced a ballistic lap with just seconds remaining to top British GT’s second practice session at Oulton Park earlier today. Meanwhile, HHC Motorsport’s Will Burns also left it late before setting fastest time in GT4.
A fully dry track meant times would be faster than the morning session, and although early pace-setter Patrick Kujala achieved that within the first five minutes, three red flags prevented further improvements until the closing stages.
Marco Sorensen was the first to beat Kujala’s time but ended up third in the final reckoning behind Keen – whose 1m33.829s was inside the existing lap record – and ERC Sport’s Yelmer Buurman, who finished 0.562s adrift of the Lamborghini.
Sorensen was another two tenths back in third, with Kujala, Jetstream Motorsport’s Maxime Martin and Team Parker Racing’s Callum Macleod completing the top-six.
Jonny Cocker’s #69 Barwell Lamborghini caused one of the red flags after crashing heavily at Britten’s. The team now faces a race against time to be ready for qualifying at 15:55.
In GT4, long-time pace-setter Scott Malvern looked set to top the times before Will Burns produced a 1m43.530s late in the session. That was enough to topple the Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG by 0.180s, while the second HHC Ginetta of Patrik Matthiesen and Callum Pointon was a similar margin further back in third.
Charlie Fagg’s Tolman Motorsport McLaren beat Dan Mckay’s similar Equipe Verschuur-run 570S GT4 to fourth place, while Joe Osborne completed the top six aboard Tolman’s Pro/Am entry.
