Jetstream Motorsport’s Maxime Martin topped British GT’s second practice session at Silverstone earlier today, while Matt George ensured Aston Martin also paced the GT4 class.
FP2 wasn’t quite as quick as the morning’s opening session which saw lap records tumble in both classes, but it was another AMR factory driver that ended the 60-minute session on top thanks to Martin’s 1m59.888s. That was 0.034s slower than Nicki Thiim’s best from earlier this morning but enough to head FP2 by 0.119s from TF Sport’s Marco Sorensen in another V12 Vantage.
Rob Bell was next up in the Balfe Motorsport McLaren, while RJN Motorsport’s Nissan driven by Struan Moore and Ricardo Sanchez completed a top-four covered by as many tenths.
The first of Team Parker’s Bentleys finished fifth courtesy of Callum Macleod who was half-a-tenth down on the GT-R and 0.4s faster than Beechdean AMR’s Aston Martin driven by Darren Turner, as well as Ryan Ratcliffe’s Continental GT3. Jonny Adam completed the top-eight.
Matt George is scheduled to drive both the Invictus Games Racing Jaguar and Generation AMR Aston Martin in tomorrow’s Silverstone 500, and it was with the latter that he topped the GT4 class in second practice. His 2m12.301s was 0.6s slower than Scott Malvern’s morning benchmark but a tenth quicker than Finlay Hutchison and Dan Mckay’s Equipe Verschuur McLaren, which was once again fastest of the Silver Cup entries.
Century Motorsport’s Jack Mitchell and Alexander Schjerpen beat Michael Broadhurst’s Fox Motorsport Mercedes-AMG to third by just 0.067s, while Team Parker’s Malvern lapped more than a tenth slower than his FP1 best en route to fifth.
Mike Robinson finished sixth in Balfe’s GT4-spec McLaren, while newcomer Euan Alers-Hankey (Track-Club McLaren) and Tolman Motorsport completed the top-eight.
This afternoon’s qualifying session to decide the grid for tomorrow’s Silverstone 500 begins at 15:25.
