Reigning British GT3 champion Jonny Adam will return to TF Sport in 2019 alongside new co-driver Graham Davidson.
The duo will race Aston Martin’s new Vantage GT3 after both spent 2018 aboard outgoing V12 models run by Optimum Motorsport and Jetstream, respectively.
Davidson finished seventh in the Drivers’ standings but undoubtedly had the pace to claim more than the solitary win achieved with Maxime Martin at Spa. Meanwhile, Adam bagged two victories and his third title in four years as mentor to championship debutant Flick Haigh.
But with Haigh switching to European competition, a possibility has arisen for the AMR factory driver to move back to TF Sport with whom he won races in 2016 and ’17, as well as the Drivers’ title alongside Derek Johnston.
“It’s good to be returning to TF Sport – Tom knows how to put together a good team,” said Adam. “I raced against Graham this year and he proved to be a very rapid Am and his win at Spa shows that he has the pace and is learning quickly how to get the most out of every opportunity. It’s his second year with Aston Martin, so it’s great to see him stepping up with the new Vantage.
“We all like to set goals ahead of every season, he will be aiming for his first championship and I’ll be pushing hard for my fourth. I’ll work closely with him in terms of coaching, simulator work and making sure that he’s completely focused on the driving. I’m quietly confident that, as a team, we can put together a strong championship challenge.”
Davidson has competed with Jetstream since the start of his career, which included a dominant GT Cup campaign in 2017. However, the 33-year-old Scot believes a team of TF Sport’s experience is required to claim a British GT crown.
“It’s fantastic to be joining TF Sport for next year and to have a team-mate in Jonny Adam, well, it doesn’t get much better than that!” he said. “It’s going to be mega and I just hope I can do it justice. Last year I showed good pace but perhaps pushed too hard on occasion. It’s funny that my win at Spa was actually one of the easiest of my races, so I learned a great deal through the season.
“I enjoyed my time with Jetstream; they took me from track days to victory in British GT, but I need to step up if I am to realise my true potential and they understand that.
“I drove the new GT3 at Snetterton in the wet recently with Jonny and straight away I could feel the performance gains. The car feedback was excellent, it has great traction and turn in, so I’m sure that, as a complete package, we’ll be right up there.”
Mark Farmer was confirmed aboard TF Sport’s second Aston Martin last month, although his Pro co-driver remains TBC for the time being.
British GT’s 2019 campaign begins at Oulton Park on Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (April 20 & 22).
