British GT reveals 2020 season calendar

British GT reveals 2020 season calendar

> Nine races split across seven rounds and six circuits
> Dates confirmed during SRO Motorsports Group’s annual Total 24 Hours of Spa press conference

British GT’s calendar will remain largely unchanged in 2020 when the same six circuits host a mix of one, two and three-hour races split across seven rounds.

The biggest single change concerns the Brands Hatch date, which shifts from the first to final August weekend in a bid to relieve pressure on teams also contesting the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

That change also sees British GT’s traditional #DoningtonDecider pushed back one week to September 19/20.

As is tradition, the season begins on Easter weekend at Oulton Park where both 60-minute races are scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday. Snetterton then hosts two more hour-long contests before British GT’s only three-hour race – the blue riband Silverstone 500 – occupies its usual slot on June 6/7.

Like this year, Donington’s GP circuit hosts the first of its two 120-minute races a fortnight later before British GT travels to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium for its annual SRO Speedweek excursion. Brands Hatch and Donington then round out the season after the summer break in August and September.

The championship’s media day date and venue both remain TBC for now.

Lauren Granville, British GT Championship Manager: “The calendar’s current format remains popular so there’s no reason to make any major changes for 2020. Some of our teams were understandably eager for a break after the Spa 24 Hours, especially as British GT visits the same circuit one week earlier, so we’ve acted to relieve the current pressure in late July/early August. The later date at Brands, which MSV has kindly made available for us, also ensures we have an extra race after the summer break, better spreading out the season.

“Equally, Donington’s additional date proved popular in June so we are delighted to have locked that in again. Ideally we’d visit seven different circuits but with no credible alternatives currently available in the UK, Donington provides the perfect fit.”

This year’s campaign enters its home straight next weekend when Brands Hatch hosts the penultimate round of 2019’s championship.
