TORA British GT Esports Championship organisers confirm 13-race 2020 calendar

> Xbox One and PC users to battle for GT3 and GT4 titles on Forza Motorsport 7
> The Online Racing Association partnership extends into sixth season

Season six of the TORA British GT Esports Championship will feature 13 races split across seven rounds.

Motorsport UK-recognised esports organisers, The Online Racing Association, will once again oversee the series on British GT’s behalf. The championship also remains on Forza Motorsport 7 whose Xbox One and PC users compete simultaneously via Turn 10 Studios’ cross-play feature. GT3 and GT4 Drivers’ titles will be awarded while every round will be livestreamed via TORA’s Twitch channel and associated partners.

As in previous years, all liveries must feature mandated real-world branding such as class-specific Intelligent Money windscreen banners, British GT number panels and championship partner logos such as Pirelli, Sunoco and Driven.

The cancelation of real-world events amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak has seen esports take centre stage in recent weeks. But instead of further cluttering an already crowded marketplace, British GT’s official online championship will host races throughout the year as it has done since 2015.

The virtual calendar is also intended to mirror its real-world counterpart, which was due to begin at Oulton Park over Easter weekend.

Two sprint races at Road Atlanta kick off TORA’s British GT campaign on June 14 before Hockenheim’s GP circuit substitutes for Snetterton a fortnight later. Silverstone hosts 2020’s only endurance race on July 19 ahead of a return visit to Virginia International Raceway (playing the role of Donington Park) in early August. That’s followed by trips to Spa-Francorchamps and Brands Hatch before another Donington doppelganger, the Nurburgring, closes out this year’s 13-race season.

A revised real-world British GT calendar will be confirmed at a later date.

Ben Williams, The Online Racing Association President: “Last year’s championship attracted more than 200 entries, a number we expect to increase in 2020 thanks to the additional, mainstream interest esports is currently experiencing. Indeed, our endurance events in 2020 have attracted a record number of gamers and I see no reason why that won’t be reflected in British GT, which is traditionally one of our most popular real-world collaborations.”
