TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK Young Driver McKenna joins Ferguson at Speedworks

> GT4’s fourth full-season Pro-Am entry confirmed

Speedworks Motorsport has revealed the Pro-Am driver crew with which it will contest this season’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

Carrera Cup GB racer John Ferguson joins the first member of the new TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK Young Driver Programme, Scott McKenna, at the wheel of Speedworks’ GR Supra GT4.

47-year-old Ferguson contested Carrera Cup GB in 2019 – when he finished third in the Am class – and ’20, but has spent most of his amateur motorsport career racing in domestic Formula Ford 1600 series.

McKenna also switches from a 911 to the Supra following his rapid rise through the junior ranks. His family’s ice driving business on the frozen lakes of Scandinavia provided the ideal opportunity to learn car control before switching to and winning the Ginetta GT5 Championship in 2019. A standout first Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign – culminating with sixth place in the final Pro standings – followed.

Now the 19-year-old will spend his third full-season of racing leading Speedworks’ UK Young Driver Programme. In addition to drawing upon the team and Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe’s combined expertise, McKenna will enjoy privileged access to TGR-E’s state-of-the-art Cologne facility and driving simulator and benefit from the experience of reigning FIA World Endurance Champion and multiple Le Mans 24 Hours podium-finisher Mike Conway.

“It’s an absolute honour to be selected for the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK Young Driver Programme – it’s incredible to think I’ll go down in history as the very first member of such a fantastic initiative,” he said. “This is such a big deal and a tremendously proud moment for me.

“It’s never been about Formula 1 for me – GT and sportscar racing has always been where it’s at in my mind, with the ultimate dream of competing at Le Mans. This is the next step on that ladder, and I could not be any more excited. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is such a prestigious brand – in everything they turn their hand to, from endurance racing to rallying, they succeed. Hopefully British GT will be the next box on that list to be ticked.”

Team principal Christian Dick added: “We took big strides forward in British GT last season and acquired a great deal of data and knowledge along the way. I think Scott and John’s diverse skillsets and experience will make them a very complementary pairing, and we are all tremendously excited and motivated to have them on-board. The aim is very much to hit the ground running come Brands Hatch in May. We can’t wait to go racing!”
