> Race-winning McLaren 720S GT3 rejoins the grid
Enduro Motorsport are graduating to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship this season with Pro-Am pairing Morgan Tillbrook and Marcus Clutton.
The team, which was only founded in 2020, was due to make several race-by-race appearances with the same Mercedes-AMG GT4 as it campaigns in GT Cup. However, that commitment has now escalated to a full-season GT3 entry after acquiring Balfe Motorsport’s British GT race-winning McLaren 720S.
Tillbrook remains a relative novice in GT terms but tasted success in his Mercedes-AMG GT4 with a number of podiums during a limited GT Cup programme last season. He and Clutton are campaigning the Mercedes-AMG in the same championship again this year but will swap to the McLaren GT3 for all seven of their British GT outings.
“Yep, things have escalated pretty quickly!” confessed Enduro Motorsport’s founder. “We’d previously planned to do a few British GT rounds with the Merc before embarking on a full season in 2022, but when the McLaren became available – and it’s a chassis with race-winning pedigree in British GT – the opportunity was too good to pass up.
“I’ve got some endurance racing experience from Fun Cup but obviously it’s a very different ball game in British GT. We’re expecting a steep learning curve but I founded Enduro with the intention of competing at the highest level, and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing this year in the UK. Marcus’ knowledge will be invaluable and he’s more than quick enough to mix it with the championship’s familiar Pro drivers. A podium or two would represent a really good first season for us.”
Clutton, meanwhile, embarks on his first full-season British GT entry since winning the GT4 crown aboard ABG Motorsport’s KTM X-Bow in 2011. His two most recent one-off appearances have come with JMH Auto alongside John Seale in 2018 (GTC) and last year at Oulton Park where he qualified an impressive fifth overall.
“Personally, it’s great to be racing at this level again, but more importantly a full-season programme offers the team a chance to build momentum while learning at a faster rate,” said the reigning Radical Challenge champion. “Morgan doesn’t have the experience of British GT’s established Ams but he’s got the raw speed to worry them. I’d liken him to Graham Davidson who laid the foundations for his 2019 drivers’ title the year before. In a similar way, we definitely see this as a multi-year programme that builds towards a championship challenge.”
Spectators can attend the opening round of this season’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Brands Hatch on May 22/23 by reserving tickets in advance. Several covid protocols and restrictions – including a closed paddock – will remain in place until at least June 21 when the UK government is due to end all lockdown measures.
