> New Ginetta GT Championship joins GT Academy and Junior Championship
Ginetta is expanding its commitment to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship for another three years after signing a long-term partnership with SRO Motorsports Group.
The manufacturer’s existing Junior Championship and GT Academy are joined on next season’s support bill by the new Ginetta GT Championship, which features a new car and two classes: GT Pro and GT5.
Each series will appear exclusively on the British GT package, save for a standalone, Ginetta-only event at Silverstone.
The popular junior single-seater categories GB3 and GB4 complete the roster, which will be a permanent presence at British GT’s six UK events.
The partnership also paves the way for more Ginetta G56 GT4 models to join British GT’s entry list from next season. Assetto Motorsport are the only team to currently run the car, which replaced the race and championship-winning G55 in 2021. Indeed, that car and its G50 predecessor racked up more GT4 victories for Ginetta than any other manufacturer in series history.
Mike Simpson, Head of Motorsport, Ginetta, said: “Extending our partnership with SRO Motorsports Group is all part of Lawrence Tomlinson’s vision to continue to develop our racing series and experience. It is a great opportunity for us to continue to build our offering for drivers at all levels with ambitions to become professional racers or to go endurance racing. It makes racing more efficient for teams and drivers and enables Ginetta to expand its renowned racing ladder philosophy to Europe and the USA where SRO already has a presence in GT racing.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Alan Gow and TOCA for the support they have given Ginetta over many years.”
Intelligent Money British GT Championship Manager Lauren Granville added: “Ginetta's championships are a cornerstone of Britain's modern-day motorsport landscape. Big, competitive grids and value-for-money racing also make its series the ideal destination for hobby racers or stepping stone for youngsters eyeing a professional career.
“What's more, Ginetta is also the most successful constructor in British GT4 history - proof that its motorsport expertise extends beyond one-make competition. As such, we are delighted to have Ginetta exclusively appearing on the Intelligent Money British GT Championship package for the next three years where it joins two more strong national platforms: GB3 and GB4.”
Ginetta Junior Championship
The UK’s longest running and most prestigious junior series. Offering the first step on the motorsport ladder for 14 to 17-year-old racing drivers, using the multi-disciplined Ginetta G40. It is a championship that plays a critical function in the development of young drivers.
Ginetta GT Academy
The Ginetta GT Academy is a unique concept providing the driver a high performance, yet safe and reliable race car, the G56 GTA, to enjoy entry level GT Racing. Drivers of all experience levels compete in GT Academy as the field is split between experienced drivers and novices being trained and supported by Ginetta factory drivers in the ‘Rookie’ class.
Ginetta GT Championship
New for 2023, the Ginetta GT Championship will consist of two main classes: GT Pro and GT5. Due to the success of the GT Academy Championship, Ginetta will now offer both a new car and championship to take drivers to the next level of competition, full details of which will be announced soon.
