Former Intelligent Money British GT4 champion Stuart Middleton makes his series return this season alongside Freddie Tomlinson at Raceway Motorsport.
The then 17-year-old and Will Tregurtha remain the youngest crew in terms of combined age ever to win a British GT title after clinching the crown with HHC Motorsport in 2017. Middleton’s career has since taken him to mainland Europe and North America where he’s predominantly raced Super Trofeo and GT3-spec Lamborghini Huracans.
However, 2023 sees him back behind the wheel of a Ginetta – the same manufacturer with whom he tasted so much British GT success seven years ago. A second title would make him the first driver ever to win two GT4 crowns.
“It is a pleasure to be back on home soil and to compete in British GT once again,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Ginetta and working together with Freddie and the team. I won the GT4 championship back in 2017, so there’s only one aim: win the title again!”
While Middleton claimed his victories and championship with the previous generation G55, Tomlinson has already banked a season’s worth of experience aboard the G56 after contesting British GT4 with Joe Wheeler and Assetto Motorsport last year. 2023 represents something of a homecoming for the 18-year-old who was previously part of Raceway’s karting programme before making the jump to cars with the same team.
“After a good learning year in 2022, I am delighted to announce that I have signed to return this year and I am hoping that we will be able to extract the true potential out of the car to be battling at the front,” said Tomlinson.
Raceway, meanwhile, embarks on its British GT debut after accruing several years of success in Ginetta’s one-make categories. It has won multiple G40 and GT5 titles over the last three seasons and also clinched 2022’s GTA championship with a modified version of the G56 GT4.
“We are delighted to be working with Freddie and Stuart in 2023,” said team principal Luca Hirst. “We supported Freddie in his early years of karting and it’s been great to see him progress up Ginetta’s motorsport ladder since then. His existing experience of the G56 GT4 will help us enormously as Raceway gears up for what appears to be an incredibly competitive British GT season.
“Stuart, of course, requires little introduction. He was one of those who looked to be going places when he raced in Ginetta’s junior categories but still probably surprised a few people outside of those circles when he won the GT4 title with Will [Tregurtha] in 2017. He’s gone on to race faster cars, of course, but I also know he’s relishing the opportunity to be the elder statesman – if that’s possible at 23! – this year. Between him and Freddie I think we’ve put together a very capable Silver pairing.”
This year’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park on April 8 & 10.
