2023: Drivetac and Track Focused unite for new GT4 programme with Wallis and Maher-Loughnan

Stunt driving school, Drivetac, has joined forces with Track Focused to field a newly updated Mercedes-AMG GT4 in this year’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship.

The Silver entry pairs GT Cup’s reigning GTH class champions James Wallis and Sam Maher-Loughnan with a Track Focused team that previously contested the series in 2019 with a KTM X-Bow.

17-year-old Wallis already has a British GT appearance to his name after racing Motus One’s McLaren 570S at Spa last year. That outing was very much secondary to his main GT Cup programme, however, where the teenager and Maher-Loughnan topped their class and finished third overall with another GT4 manufacturer: Porsche.

“I can't wait to join the British GT grid this year; the new Mercedes-AMG should be amazing to drive,” said Wallis. “GT Cup gave Sam and I the ideal platform to hone our race craft but we know this year will be a step up – something I saw for myself at Spa last season. However, although there are crews with more experience than us, I firmly believe we can make our mark on the championship.”

Drivetac co-founder Maher-Loughnan is a professional stunt driver by trade and has been able to put those same car control techniques to good use in a motorsport environment since joining Wallis at the start of last year.

Indeed, although Drivetac was primarily targeted at the stunt community initially, the company has welcomed an increasing number of racing drivers to its academy in recent years.

“Speed is nothing without car control, and that’s something more and more racing drivers are realising,” said Maher-Loughnan. “We definitely bring something a bit different to the paddock but ultimately want and expect to be mixing it with the established teams and drivers. The Mercedes-AMG has a reputation for being one of GT4’s best cars – something James and I hope to prove this year.”

Drivetac powered by Track Focused’s crew will attend British GT’s media day at Donington Park next Tuesday before lining up for Oulton Park’s season opener on April 8 & 10.
