RACE LAB has revealed the livery with which its third entry, shared by Iain Campbell and James Kell, will contest this year’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship campaign.
The duo’s participation was revealed during the series’ media day last Tuesday. However, their 720S – which will race in Evo spec – was not present, unlike that of the team’s other GT3 and GT4 McLarens.
Kell raced Team Rocket RJN’s similar example last season while Campbell made his first British GT appearance at Spa with the same Greystone GT-run 720S GT3 with which he contested a full season of GT Cup.
The duo are one of four Silver-Am crews amongst this year’s 18-strong GT3 entry. Kell closed out 2022 with two class victories at Brands Hatch and Donington to finish second in the standings, and is now hungry for more success with RACE LAB.
“I am very excited to be back in British GT for a fourth year, and my second in a McLaren 720S GT3,” he said. “Having met Iain in his rookie year back in 2020, and watching his rapid progress since then, I am really looking forward to driving with him this season.
“This will be my first year with RACE LAB, however I know the guys who run the team very well, having raced against most of the team in various other series over the years.
“I have had a lot of seat time in the McLaren 720S, and the latest Evo version promises to move the game on again. This season I will be looking to build upon last year's win and podium, and the objective will be consistency, and to be challenging for the Silver-Am championship, as well as aiming for overall successes.”
Campbell, whose entry is in partnership with IBC Racing, added: “This was a very last-minute decision, but also one I feel very excited about. To be joining RACE LAB in a car that I had so much fun in last year and learnt so much about, it is fantastic to be able to be a part of the British GT grid for 2023.
“I had a taster of the championship in 2022 in Spa and the racing was incredibly addictive and I cannot wait to be back. I am confident in the team’s ability to provide James and I with a competitive car and also in James’ ability behind the wheel. He’s a quick Silver driver who has shown so much promise especially throughout last season and I am really looking forward to racing with him this year.”
Lucky Khera and Euan Hankey team up in RACE LAB’s other GT3 entry, while Ian Gough and Tom Wrigley will share the team’s new Artura GT4.
