McLaren factory driver Gamble joins Jundu and Paddock at Donington

McLaren factory driver Tom Gamble is joining Kavi Jundu in Paddock Motorsport’s Artura GT4 at Donington Park next weekend.

It will be the 21-year-old’s third Intelligent Money British GT Championship start and first since 2019 when he raced a Century Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 in Snetterton’s two 60-minute sprint races.

He was crowned Ginetta Junior champion two years earlier and followed that up with BRDC British Formula 3 Championship victories that saw him nominated for and ultimately win the coveted Autosport BRDC Award in 2018.

A sportscar switch, and similar success, soon followed for Gamble who won the European Le Mans Series LMP3 title in 2020 before finishing runner-up in the LMP2 division one year later. He also has experience of racing in America’s IMSA series, two Le Mans 24 Hours appearances under his belt, and became one of just three fully factory McLaren GT drivers at the start of this season before taking Gold class victory at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa in July.

Jundu, meanwhile, showed flashes of pace alongside erstwhile co-driver Tom Rawlings during a season that has yet to yield a significant result. It’s hoped Gamble’s undoubted speed and experience of the Artura can address that at the two-hour season finale on October 21-22.

“I’m really excited to join Paddock Motorsport for the final British GT round,” said Gamble. “I’ve done a lot of development work with the Artura GT4, but this will be the first time I’ve had the chance to race it, so that will be really good fun. The car will be quite different from the LMP2s I’ve been racing this year, but the Artura GT4 shares some similarities with the current GT3 car.

“I’ve always found that I adapt pretty well between the different cars I drive, there are some different techniques to use for each, but both the McLaren GT4 and GT3 are mega cars to drive.

“Donington is my local track and one of my favourites. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had the chance to race there so I’m really looking forward to heading back there and seeing if we can round off the season with a strong result for Paddock and the Artura GT4.”
