Beechdean AMR’s Aston Martin will start today’s Donington Decider from pole position after the team successfully appealed against its original demotion.
Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn set the fastest combined time in Saturday’s qualifying session but were subsequently moved back to 10th on the provisional grid – after penalties elsewhere were also applied – after failing to complete the minimum of two timed laps in GT3 Q1.
This morning the team appealed the decision based on circumstances arising from a third-party supplier and a red flag shortening the session. Motorsport UK’s stewarding panel agreed and the appeal was upheld.
Howard therefore heads up row one from championship contender Darren Leung (Century Motorsport) who was due to inherit pole.
The same circumstances do not apply to Barwell Motorsport, which also appealed against the demotion of its Lamborghinis that failed to set two timed laps in Q1. Its appeal was dismissed.
