British GT 2025: Donington set to stage season opener as media day moves to Silverstone

Donington Park will host the British GT Championship’s season opener and title decider next year following confirmation of the provisional 2025 calendar.

Oulton Park moves from its traditional Easter weekend to the late May bank holiday, while Silverstone hosts media day on March 21 – two weeks before the campaign begins one hour north.

The calendar constitutes the same number of events (seven), races (nine) and hours (16) as 2024 but does include several key differences.

First and most obvious is Oulton Park moving to May 24 & 26. Just as it was previously at Easter, the event will be split between Saturday and Monday with both 60-minute races staged on the latter. This decision was taken in light of team feedback and an eagerness to begin the season with a single longer race.

That event is Donington, which continues to host two British GT rounds, albeit held six months apart. Both feature a two-hour duration.

Silverstone, which hosts Round 2, remains a little earlier in the year than is considered ideal. However, potential clashes with important international championships and the circuit’s limited availability through early summer ahead of the British Grand Prix made it impossible to finalise an alternative date.

The second three-hour race moves from Donington to Spa Speedweek, which again hosts British GT one week prior to the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. Several GT3 and GT4 teams will remain in Belgium for the latter.

Snetterton retains its place in mid-July before Brands Hatch swaps places with Donington, which takes up its traditional end-of-season ‘decider’ role.

As always, the calendar avoids Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS and GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club clashes. The Le Mans 24 Hours and FIA World Endurance Championship have also been considered.

Official testing will take place on the Fridays prior to Silverstone, Oulton, Spa and Snetterton. Donington’s sessions will be on Thursdays per local circuit regulations.
