Former GT4 champion Jack Mitchell makes his British GT return this year as part of Mahiki Racing’s expanded programme with Lotus.
The 26-year-old, who clinched 2018’s title by a single point, joins Steven Lake in the first of Mahiki’s two Pro-Am entries. A third Emira, which looks set to contest the Silver class, is also confirmed.
Mitchell went on to score a GT3 victory with 2 Seas in 2020 before making his final British GT appearance two years later at Oulton.
No driver has ever won two British GT4 titles. Mitchell and reigning champion Jack Brown – whose return was confirmed on Tuesday – will both be hoping to change that this year.
“I’m really excited to be teaming up with Mahiki Racing and Steven Lake for the upcoming British GT season,” he said. “The team had a successful first year in the GT4 category, the rate of progress across the season was very impressive and I look forward to building on that for 2025. Both mine and Steve’s goals aligned perfectly which has given me full confidence for the season ahead.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the team and seeing what we can achieve together. It’s going to be an exciting season for us all.”
Lake, meanwhile, is embarking on his second British GT campaign with Mahiki and Lotus after spending 2024 partnered with Nathan Harrison. He also raced the same Emira in the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club last year.
“This season marks an exciting chapter as we partner with Lotus officially,” he said. “The entire team has put in an incredible effort to refine every aspect of our approach; our focus is on consistency, precision, and amplifying our performance to be in contention for podium finishes at every race.
“We know the competition will be formidable, but with the dedication and expertise within the team we are confident that our hard work will pay off. Every detail, from preparation to execution on race day, is being fine-tuned with the support of the team at Lotus to give us the best possible chance of success. We can’t wait to hit the track and showcase what we’ve been working on.”
There is another significant change in Mahiki’s garage following Joe Osborne’s appointment as team manager – a role that prevents him from fulfilling his usual TV commentary duties this season.
“I’m looking forward to another season of British GT, albeit in a very different capacity,” he said. “I’ve raced and won in the championship, and loved commentating on it over the last few years, but this new opportunity was one I couldn’t turn down.
“I am also sure that the expanded partnership between Lotus and Mahiki will make the Emira a force to be reckoned with this year. The programme brings together speed, strategy and a shared passion for motorsport. I can’t wait to get started.”
Mahiki’s Emiras will attend the British GT media day at Silverstone on March 21. Fans can also reserve their free ticket now at https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/british-gt-championship.
The seven-round, nine-race championship begins at Donington Park on April 5-6.
