Blackthorn AMR and Optimum set the early pace in Spa testing

+ Result: Friday Testing, Spa-Francorchamps

Jonny Adam and Giacomo Petrobelli emerged fastest from twin test sessions at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, with their Blackthorn AMR Aston Martin leading a trio of McLarens.

Optimum Motorsport led the way in GT4 thanks to both of its McLaren Arturas taking a turn at the head of the timesheets.

Adam’s best time during the quicker second test in cooler ambient temperatures stood as the day’s benchmark, his 2:16.302s effort proving 0.35s faster than Marvin Kirchöffer had managed in the #77 Optimum Motorsport McLaren in the day's first run. Adam’s time was also just over a tenth down on the championship lap record, set here by Raffaele Marciello last year in a RAM Racing BMW M4.

Kirchöffer also improved in the second session, getting to within 0.1s of Adam’s best as Simon Orange and Marcus Clutton finished third in their Orange Racing 720S. A late improvement by Callum Macleod moved the #3 Optimum McLaren into fourth, with Matt Topham featuring in that car this weekend.

Barwell Motorsport’s #78 Lamborghini Huracan shared by Alex Martin and Patrick Kujala was fifth, ahead of Andrew Howard and Tom Wood’s Beechdean AMR Vantage. One high-profile casualty was the 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG of Kevin Tse and Maximilian Götz, which missed the second test after an accident in the day’s first session.

Harry George and Luca Hopkinson led the way in GT4, with Hopkinson’s best shaving almost a full second off Jack Brown’s class-leading effort from test one in the sister car he shares with Marc Warren.

Ravi Ramyead and Charlie Robertson were second fastest in their Century Motorsport BMW M4, ahead of Josh Miller and Jack Mitchell on their first outing in the new Mahiki Racing Ginetta G56. Brown’s best in the first session put the #90 Artura fourth across the day, with Chris Salkeld and Brandon Templeton rounding out the top five in the second Century BMW.

Free Practice begins at 09:00 local time (08:00 UK) on Saturday.
