2 Seas and Mahiki set the pace in opening Snetterton practice

+ Provisional result, Snetterton Free Practice

Maximilian Götz set the benchmark in the opening practice session at Snetterton, putting the 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG he shares with Kevin Tse top of the pile.

Mahiki Racing maintained its fast start to life with Ginetta, with Joe Wheeler’s early best putting his and Ian Duggan’s #88 Ginetta clear of its GT4 pursuers.

With the sun starting to bear down on the Norfolk track, many teams opted for a slower start to the session. The most notable of those who did go for early laps included Callum Macleod in the #3 Optimum Motorsport McLaren, Hugo Cook’s #1 Barwell Lamborghini and Kiern Jewiss aboard the points-leading #42 2 Seas Mercedes-AMG, which all rotated the top time.

Jewiss put himself fractionally clear before giving way to team-mate Charles Dawson, and things remained largely static until the halfway point when Götz jumped into the sister Mercedes-AMG and pulled 0.3s clear.

Sandy Mitchell brought the #78 Barwell Lamborghini he shares with Alex Martin up into second, but finished 0.2s down on Götz by the flag. Jewiss/Dawson were third, with Rob Collard and Cook fourth as 2 Seas and Barwell locked out the top four.

Marvin Kirchhöfer and Morgan Tillbrook were fifth in their Optimum McLaren, ahead of Spa winners Giacomo Petrobelli and Jonny Adam in the Blackthorn Aston Martin.

The GT4 contest was settled early in the favour of Duggan and Wheeler, after an opening flurry of times. Luca Hopkinson set the initial pace in the #17 Optimum Artura before being surpassed by both Charlie Robertson’s Century BMW and then Wheeler in the #88 Ginetta.

Wheeler’s time wouldn’t be beaten, leaving the car a tenth ahead of Robertson and Ravi Ramyead. Phil Keen and Jon Currie were third in the Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG, ahead of Hopkinson and Harry George. Josh Miller and Jack Mitchell were fifth in their Mahiki Ginetta, ahead of championship leaders Jack Brown and Marc Warren’s Optimum McLaren.

Pre-Qualifying is scheduled for 12:05.
