Alexander Sims threw down the gauntlet to Jonny Adam in second practice for this weekend’s crucial British GT rounds at Snetterton by pipping the championship leader to top spot in today’s second practice session. Meanwhile, Generation AMR SuperRacing’s Matthew George again led the way in GT4.
Sims, whose Barwell Motorsport co-driver Liam Griffin remains in title contention, lapped his Lamborghini in 1m47.733s late in the 50-minute session to topple his TF Sport rival by 0.342s and also lower the Scot’s morning benchmark by two tenths.
Adam’s response resulted in fastest first and third sectors, but his second was suitably slow enough to restrict the Aston Martin to the runners-up spot on this occasion.
Phil Keen once again ended the session third fastest and just a tenth shy of Adam’s time in the sister Barwell Huracan, while Jon Barnes also ensured that both TF Sport V12 Vantages featured in the top-four.
The AmDTuning.com BMW Z4, which also retains an outside chance of winning this year’s drivers’ title, was next up in the hands of Joe Osborne, albeit just 0.028s shy of Barnes’ time, with Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse’s Rob Bell a further second back.
Matt Manderson placed an impressive seventh in the Ultimate Speed Aston Martin, while the Team Parker Racing Bentley of Seb Morris endured another under-par session before winding up eighth.
Elsewhere, Matthew George was once again the class of the GT4 pack en route to topping his second practice session of the day. The Generation AMR SuperRacing driver posted a 1m58.528s - three tenths down on his morning’s best - to pip long-time leader Sandy Mitchell by less than two tenths.
The Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse teenager led positions two-to-four covered by a meagre eight hundredths, Jack Mitchell and Matthew Graham’s Macmillan Racing Aston finishing third ahead of the championship-leading PMW Expo Racing/Optimum Motorsport Ginetta of Mike Robinson and Graham Johnson.
The first of the RCIB Insurance Racing Ginettas - driven by Rob Barrable and Aaron Mason - and Bradley Ellis’ Simpson Motorsport G55 completed the top-six.
