FP2: Adam and Tregurtha top red-flag interrupted session at Brands

Result: FP2

TF Sport’s Jonny Adam posted the fastest time of the weekend thus far in final practice ahead of this afternoon’s British GT qualifying session at Brands Hatch, while HHC Motorsport’s Will Tregurtha pipped David Pittard to top GT4.

The first half of the 60-minute session was dominated by red flags after Callum Macleod parked his Team Parker Racing Bentley in the Turn 5 gravel trap and Mark Farmer did likewise at Paddock Hill Bend shortly after the track went green.

Phil Keen looked set to lead from start to finish after using an empty track to vault to the top of the times early on. However, he hadn’t reckoned on Adam who posted the fastest time of the day - a 1m25.864s - in the dying seconds.

Last year’s Brands Hatch race-winning Aston Martin therefore led the way by 0.258s over Keen who came within 0.007s of losing second to Jon Barnes after his TF Sport V12 Vantage vaulted up to third in the closing stages. An ultra-tight top-four was completed by Adam Christodoulou’s Rollcentre Racing Mercedes-AMG, which finished another 0.030s further back.

The Spirit of Race Ferrari and Rick Parfitt’s Team Parker Bentley completed the top six.

GT4 saw this year’s title contenders go toe-to-toe before Tregurtha pipped Lanan’s Pittard by just 0.068s. The 17-year-old’s best of 1m32.878s was a second faster than Mike Simpson’s FP1 benchmark and 0.5s clear of Joe Osborne’s Tolman Motorsport McLaren, which finished third in class.

Century’s #43 Ginetta, driven by Niall Murray and Jacob Mathiassen, recovered from its morning driveshaft issue to end up fourth quickest, eight tenths down on fellow G55 driver Tregurtha but 0.2s faster than Macmillan AMR’s Aston Martin.

Century’s second Ginetta of Simpson/Walewska completed the top-eight ahead of Johnson/Robinson’s PMW Expo/Optimum McLaren and the In2Racing 570S driven by Hoggarth/Anttila.

This afternoon’s British GT qualifying session begins at 16:25.
