Registration now open for second TORA British GT Championship season

The Online Racing Association (TORA) British GT Championship will return for a second year in 2016 following a hugely successful inaugural campaign.

Over 230 drivers competed in the maiden seven-round season, the first to be run in conjunction with a major real-life championship on the newly launched Project CARS platform.

TORA is confident even more players will sign up for the 2016 edition, which features 14 races held across seven rounds at six of the same venues British GT visits. Indeed, only the virtual championship’s trip to Imola on May 5 differs to that of its real-life counterpart.

The Project CARS simulation on Xbox One again provides the platform for 12 GT3 and GT4 manufacturers to compete. Four cars will also be available for the first time, including the new-generation Mercedes AMG GT3 and GPRM-developed Toyota GT86 GT4.

Such is the growing acceptance of virtual racing amongst the wider motorsport community that respected real-world sportscar broadcaster, radiolemans.com, will preview the TORA British GT Championship in full on April 7 at 8pm.

British GT’s website and social media channels will also provide regular updates and race reports throughout the year.

With a year of Project CARS experience under their belts TORA president Matt Hunter is confident this season’s edition will be bigger and better than ever before.

“2015 was a massive opportunity for TORA to work with a major championship for the first time,” he said. “We were the first major group to run a big series on Project CARS, something we’re very proud of. We learned a lot about how to get the best out of the title and we go into 2016 with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.

“The reaction to last year’s announcement and subsequent entry surpassed all expectations. That obviously brings added pressure to improve and grow further in season two, which we fully expect to achieve.”

Season two of the TORA British GT Championship kicks off at Brands Hatch on April 10. All drivers wishing to compete in the series can register their interest at forums.theonlineracingassociation.com.
