> Result: FP2
Optimum Motorsport’s Jonny Adam topped FP2 at Rockingham earlier today while HHC’s Will Burns was fastest of the GT4 contingent.
Red flags and further rain hampered progress during the day’s second practice session, which ended six minutes early when Ben Wallace went off exiting Gracelands. That was one of three stoppages during a 60-minute session that also saw Derek Johnston spin into the Chapman gravel and Fox Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMG GT4 come to a halt at a similar point early on.
Nevertheless, Adam still found time to top the standings courtesy of a 1m32.710s lap. That was half-a-second slower than Yelmer Buurman’s FP1 benchmark but 0.469s faster than nearest challenger and FIA WEC team-mate Nicki Thiim could muster aboard TF Sport’s #11 Aston Martin.
Marco Sorensen ensured V12 Vantages locked out the top three positions after lapping 0.142s slower than his Danish TF Sport team-mate, while Phil Keen’s early lap helped Barwell’s #33 Lamborghini finish best of the rest in fourth.
ERC Sport’s Yelmer Buurman had to settle for fifth ahead of Darren Turner (Beechdean AMR), Rob Bell (Balfe Motorsport) and Struan Moore (RJN Motorsport).
Elsewhere, GT4’s top four featured as many different manufacturers but it was Burns’ HHC Ginetta that set fastest time of the session. His best of 1m38.660s was some way short of Charlie Fagg’s FP1 time but still quick enough to beat Scott Malvern’s Team Parker Racing Mercedes-AMG by 0.121s.
The championship-leading Track-Club McLaren was next up in the hands of Ben Barnicoat while Academy Motorsport’s Aston Martin completed the top four 0.366s further back.
Tolman Motorsport’s 570s contingent filled positions one-to-three in FP1 but had to make do with fifth, sixth and seventh on this occasion, Lewis Proctor’s late lap leaving #5 a tenth clear of its stablemates.
Qualifying for tomorrow’ two-hour race begins at 15:25 this afternoon.
