Jordan Witt will make his first British GT Championship appearance since 2012 at Snetterton this weekend when he joins RJN Motorsport’s Nissan GT3 line-up.
The 27-year-old partners Struan Moore aboard the Silver Cup-entered #24 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in Norfolk, which stages races four and five of the 2018 campaign on Sunday. The pair already compete with RJN in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and scored their first class podium together at Silverstone last weekend.
2016’s GT Cup champion, whose CV also features International GT Open experience, last contested the British GT Championship in 2012 when he partnered Anthony Reid in an Invitation class-entered Chevron GT3.
“My 2018 programme came together very late but British GT was an option originally before we committed to the Blancpain GT Series, so it’s nice to be back in the championship,” he said. “After Monza it became apparent that we needed more time in the car, and – although the Silverstone podium was a great result – I feel that’s still the case.
“Having said that, Snetterton is one of my stronger circuits in the UK and also where I clinched the GT Cup title two years ago, so it holds fond memories for me. A Silver Cup car was also on pole there last season so I see no reason why Struan and I can’t get a podium this weekend, and especially in race one when we won’t have a success penalty.
“It’s just a one-off for the time being – we’ll see how it goes and what we learn from it but the option does exist for us to continue beyond Snetterton.”
Witt’s opportunity comes in the wake of Devon Modell’s decision to step back from British GT full-time following the first two rounds. Instead, 2014’s GT4 class runner-up will primarily concentrate on his growing business commitments.
“It’s a shame,” said Modell. “I knew it was going to be a big ask to run the business and compete over the same weekend. If I’m not able to be 100 per cent focused, it’s better someone else gets the chance to drive the RJN Nissan for now.
“The Gallery Superclub is a new venture for me this year and it demands a lot of attention but I’m certainly not hanging up my helmet just yet and hope to return to the series on another occasion, maybe even later this year.
“For now, though, I will be focusing on business commitments and maybe the occasional outing in one off events when my time permits. I would especially like to thank Bob Neville at RJN Motorsport for his understanding and wish him and Struan the very best for the remainder of the season.”
