The familiar green and black colours of Team ABBA Racing will return to British GT for the championship’s blue riband Silverstone 500 round on June 9/10.
Team principal and driver Richard Neary is once again joined by AMG factory ace Adam Christodoulou aboard the #88 Mercedes GT3, which claimed its best-ever British GT result at the same venue last season.
Business commitments prevented Neary from returning full-time this year, but that hasn’t stopped the driver, car and team from claiming victories in the Britcar Endurance Series, the most recent of which came at Silverstone earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Christodoulou’s international programme with Mercedes-AMG has seen the 28-year-old finish second at the Nurburgring 24 Hours and Silverstone’s Blancpain GT Series round over as many recent weekends. He was also fastest of GT3’s Pro contingent during British GT qualifying there last season.
“I said at the end of 2017 that I wanted to race in the Silverstone 500, and here we are,” said Neary. “Last season highlighted the time and testing required to be competitive in British GT, and without that a full-season programme didn’t make sense for me. The Britcar outings have allowed me to remain race-ready, which I’ll definitely need to be next month.
“The Mercedes-AMG’s BoP is also well suited to Silverstone so it makes sense to race there. We saw that last weekend with Adam in Blancpain, and another second place would be ideal!”
British GT’s Silverstone 500 round is just one element of the circuit’s Supercar Sunday event scheduled for June 10. Thousands of supercars will again descend on the venue for static displays and passenger rides around the famous Formula 1 track.
