Barwell confirms two new Evo-spec Lamborghini Huracan GT3s for 2019

> De Haan and Cocker return for second season
> Lamborghini factory driver confirmed in second entry

Lamborghini’s new-for-2019 Evo-spec Huracan GT3 will contest the British GT Championship next season after Barwell Motorsport confirmed two entries for the upcoming campaign.

Barwell has achieved great success with the Evo’s predecessor since handing the car its domestic debut in 2016. Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen won 10 races and finished runners-up together in the Drivers’ Championship standings over each of the last three seasons while the Surrey-based outfit also won the Teams’ crown in 2017.

However, that successful partnership will not continue in British GT next season following Minshaw’s decision to race on the international stage.

Instead, Sam De Haan and Jonny Cocker return for a sophomore season together after scoring a best result of second in 2018, while Barwell’s second entry is crewed by a to-be-confirmed Pro/Am pairing that includes a Lamborghini Squadra Corse factory driver.

“I was a complete racing novice just over a year ago, so it’s been a whirlwind last 12 months to go from that to an overall British GT podium finisher in my first ever full season of racing,” said De Haan. “I have had great guidance from Jonny and the guys at Barwell, and they give me an environment where I can learn and keep improving, as well as really enjoy my racing. And next season I’m going to be gunning for race wins and hopefully a crack at the title!”

Cocker added: “I’m absolutely delighted to be continuing our British GT campaign together with Sam and Barwell Motorsport in the new Huracan GT3 Evo. It’s plain to see the development that Sam made during 2018, taking a podium at Brands Hatch being the highlight of our season. We knew that year one would be a learning year and year two we would be aiming for the title, and that’s exactly the mindset that we’re carrying into 2019. I can’t wait to get started!”

The news comes just a few days after British GT’s 2019 entry process officially opened and two weeks on from TF Sport confirming it would be switching to Aston Martin’s new V8-powered Vantage GT3.

Further GT3 and GT4 entries will be announced before Christmas ahead of the championship’s opening round at Oulton Park on Easter Bank Holiday Weekend (April 20 & 22).
