Igoe and Wilcox make GT3 switch with WPI’s new Lamborghini

WPI Motorsport will graduate to British GT’s senior class from Round 2 at Snetterton after switching to the new-for-2019 Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The team made its championship debut last weekend at Oulton Park where Michael Igoe and Adam Wilcox recorded a best result of eighth overall aboard their GTC-spec Porsche 911.

However, WPI always regarded its GTC entry as a path towards a full-blown GT3 effort at some point in the future. And that will happen in Norfolk on May 18/19 when they become 2019’s 15th full-season senior class entry.

WPI took delivery of its new Lamborghini several weeks ago, with Igoe and Wilcox due to test the car for the first time later today at Silverstone.

“We really enjoyed ourselves at Oulton Park – the GTC entry provided a perfect introduction to British GT following our Britcar and GT Cup outings last season,” said Igoe. “When we originally lodged the entry we expected to race the Porsche full-time, but that plan evolved fairly rapidly and we soon agreed internally to switch to GT3. We looked at several options but eventually settled on the new Lamborghini. The original Huracan enjoyed much success in British GT and obviously the new Evo version has just won first time out at Oulton Park. So the omens are good.

“We know it won’t be easy. The racing at Oulton, especially during the Am stints, looked very intense! But we’re here to compete against the best and feel ready to do that.”

GT Marques’ Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport will also debut at Snetterton, while further race-by-race entries in both classes are expected to join the championship from Silverstone onwards.
