Six-time Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy returns to the British GT Championship at Donington Park and Spa-Francorchamps this summer as part of Multimatic Motorsports’ evolving Ford Mustang GT4 line-up.
The most successful track cyclist in history will partner two of Multimatic’s FIA WEC drivers, Andy Priaulx and Billy Johnson, when he makes his first British GT appearances since contesting the GT3 class in 2014.
Hoy and Johnson will race Multimatic’s #19 Mustang, which is set to feature a variety of drivers throughout the season, when British GT visits Donington on June 22/23. That’s followed one month later by the series’ annual trip to Spa in Belgium where the Scot shares the same entry with three-time World Touring Car Champion Priaulx.
Not only does that second combination boast a combined 14 world titles across their respective sporting disciplines, but Priaulx Snr also has an opportunity to go head-to-head with his son Seb who races Multimatic’s other Mustang.
Hoy, who switched from two wheels to four following his retirement from professional cycling in 2013, can’t wait to try the Mustang for size.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to race the Ford Mustang GT4,” he said. “The car already has a great racing pedigree in North America so I’m excited to see what that American muscle can do at Donington and Spa.
“Multimatic is one of the automotive industry’s best kept secrets as they work on so many extremely cool but extremely secret programmes. I’ve seen the success they made of the Ford GT programme so I’m excited to get behind the wheel of one of their cars.”
Johnson, meanwhile, is all set for his British GT debut after being named on 2019’s original full-season entry list. His history with Ford and the previous-generation Mustang goes back to 2009 before first linking up with Multimatic five years later. He has since combined his Ford GTE duties with racing the current-generation Mustang GT4 Stateside.
Multimatic will name its Silverstone 500 line-up in due course. British GT’s blue riband, three-hour race takes place on June 8/9 before Hoy joins the team at Donington and Spa.
