Academy joins forces with Multimatic for Mustang GT4 programme

The Ford Mustang GT4 will remain in British GT next season thanks to a new partnership between Academy Motorsport and Multimatic Motorsports.

Academy has switched from its traditional Aston Martin Vantages to a pair of Multimatic-built Mustangs, which made their UK debut in 2019. Success quickly followed thanks to Seb Priaulx and Scott Maxwell who gave the model a winning debut before finishing second in the Drivers’ Championship.

Multimatic, who also finished third in the Teams’ standings, will continue to oversee the Mustang’s production and component supply. However, Academy’s new partner status sees the team take over the car’s domestic and European GT4 race programmes from 2020 onwards.

Both British GT driver crews will be announced in due course.

“We are delighted to be representing Ford Performance and Multimatic in Europe,” said Academy Motorsport Managing Director, Matt Nicoll-Jones. “This is what we have aspired to since we started Academy Motorsport, 19 years ago.

“Our aspirations have always been to excel in GT racing and I believe that this partnership with Multimatic and association with Ford Performance will provide us with a truly competitive package. The product and support speaks for itself, with the results of the Mustangs this year alone convincing us that this was the right path.”

Multimatic Chief Technical Officer, Larry Holt, added: “It’s great to have the Academy Motorsport guys joining the Ford Performance family and we know they are the right people to continue the work we started in Europe with the Mustang GT4 in 2019. The car has already proven itself in North America so it is good to see its continued success in Europe.”

Academy Motorsport has also become a Multimatic-approved agent for the Ford Mustang GT4 across Europe. Drivers eager to discuss British GT opportunities should contact matt@academymotorsport.com.

Oulton Park – where the Mustang scored two pole positions and its first domestic GT4 victory earlier this year – kicks off British GT’s 2020 campaign on April 11 & 13.
