Lamborghini Squadra Corse factory drivers Franck Perera and Dennis Lind will share WPI Motorsport’s Huracan GT3 with Michael Igoe this season.
The team returns for its first full-season campaign in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship’s senior class after upgrading to the Lamborghini in time for Snetterton last year.
Igoe went on to finish seventh in the Drivers’ standings thanks to a first podium at Silverstone in just his third GT3 outing before quickly establishing himself as a front-running Am.
Those performances have also seen WPI Motorsport upgraded to an officially supported Lamborghini Squadra Corse team.
“I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running this season – we have a year’s experience under our belts with Lamborghini and know the championship,” he said. “The level of competition is very high but we took big strides in 2019 and know the areas for improvement if we’re to challenge for regular podiums, race wins and, ultimately, the championship.
“We’ve come a long way in a short space of time. Don’t forget that we started 2019 in the GTC class. Now, nine months later, we’re supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse. I’m really motivated to repay the faith they’ve shown in us.”
Igoe shares the car at five of this year’s seven British GT rounds by GT World Challenge Europe ace Perera, who joined WPI for a one-off GT Cup outing at the end of last season. The Frenchman is no stranger to most of the UK circuits and is looking forward to battling against his fellow factory professionals.
“Britain has some amazing tracks, the likes of which we don’t get to race at much anymore,” he said. “Silverstone and Brands Hatch GP are both on the European calendar and I know them well, but I’m really looking forward to somewhere like Oulton where I’ve never raced before. Muscling a Huracan GT3 around there looks like a lot of fun! The number and level of factory Pro drivers competing in British GT is also very high so I’m taking nothing for granted.
“I worked very well with Michael and the team at Snetterton last season – I did a lot of Pro/Am racing before becoming a factory driver so understand my responsibility isn’t always to be the out-and-out fastest driver. It’s the quickest and most consistent combination that usually wins, and we’re hopeful of picking up one or two of those this year.”
Perera’s clashing commitments will see Lind – now one of Lamborghini’s Intercontinental GT Challenge drivers – return at Snetterton and Silverstone. The Dane raced alongside Igoe for much of last season, helping the team to claim its maiden podium at Silverstone.
