The UK's leading motorsport programme for drivers with physical and psychological disabilities - Team BRIT - intends to compete in 2022's Intelligent Money British GT Championship.
The expected GT4 entry forms the next step in the team's long-term plan to contest the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Its current Britcar line-up comprises Bobby Trundley who was diagnosed with severe autism as a child, and Aaron Morgan who is a paraplegic following a motocross accident.
Both currently race an Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 in the Britcar Endurance series but will switch to a McLaren 570S GT4 for their expected British GT debuts next season.
"This is huge news for us," said team founder Dave Player. "One of my proudest moments in the history of Team BRIT was purchasing our Aston Martin, which meant we took a step further into seriously competitive racing.
"To now be ready to move on to the British GT Championship – the pinnacle of GT racing in Britain – is testament to the incredible hard work of the team, our sponsors and our drivers, who I know will do everything possible to make this a success.
"Racing in a McLaren will be an incredible privilege and Bobby and Aaron have made such progress over the past year, so I know they’ll be the perfect team ambassadors as we take this next step forwards.
"Now, our challenge is to build the funding, infrastructure and support we need to be as competitive as possible on track, whilst further developing a sustainable ladder of opportunities for disabled drivers, well into the future.”
McLaren Customer Racing director Ian Morgan added: "I’m delighted Team BRIT has chosen to enter British GT in 2022 with a McLaren 570S GT4. The team’s inspirational approach will help tremendously, and I look forward to following their progress throughout the season."
Before then, and as well as their Britcar programme, the team intends to create new grassroots sprint-style racing opportunities for novice racers, further building on the team’s ladder of motorsport development for disabled drivers.
Its Racing Academy has welcomed more than 100 disabled drivers to track day experiences since launching two years ago, and the team has supported more than 20 disabled drivers in obtaining race licences.
