Phil Dryburgh is hopeful he and Motorbase Performance can continue their recovery from a tough start to the British GT Championship campaign by bagging a podium at Oulton Park this weekend.
The Scot bounced back from a huge accident at Brands Hatch’s season opener to finish fifth at Rockingham last time out alongside co-driver Ross Wylie, and is eager for that upward trend to continue in Cheshire where the series stages two one-hour races on bank holiday Monday.
Past results make happy reading for the Scot, who scored a career-best British GT result at Oulton last season when he and Mat Jackson finished fourth on a one-off appearance for Motorbase. Equally, the Kent-based squad has enjoyed plenty of recent success there courtesy of overall victories in 2014 and ’15 with the same Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 machinery Dryburgh and Wylie will peddle this weekend.
The combination of shorter races and not having to serve a pit-stop success penalty in the first also works in the pair’s favour, as does Aston Martin’s recent record at Oulton; the British marque has won three of the last four races there.
“After getting our 2016 season off the starting blocks at Rockingham at the start of the month I’m hopeful that we can pick up where we left off and get some more points in the bag,” said Dryburgh. “Oulton Park is a great circuit and always produces some fantastic racing so I think we’ll be in for a bank holiday treat!
“I’m still chasing down that elusive first British GT podium; we nearly managed it here last year so that’s the aim to go one better and finally get onto the rostrum!”
Team principal David Bartrum added: “Oulton Park is a very interesting track and one that the team always enjoys visiting. With the shorter sprint format in place and with Oulton’s layout we’re guaranteed a few incidents and it’ll certainly make for interesting racing.
“Personally I hope that it levels the playing field out a little bit and we do well out of the weekend. With two races on Monday we also have the chance to make some ground up in the standings.”
