Team Rocket RJN are making their full-time return to the Intelligent Money British GT3 Championship ranks this year with long-time partners McLaren, as well as Silver-Am pairing Simon Watts and James Kell.
The team was a GT3 race winner and title contender in 2020, and also entered a 720S at several events last year despite its primary focus shifting to the GT4 class.
Now one of its 2021 drivers, Kell, graduates to the senior category after spending the last two years in GT4, first with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK and then alongside Jordan Collard at Team Rocket RJN where the duo finished third overall and runners up in the Silver Cup.
“I’m thrilled to be back with the amazing Team Rocket RJN and working with McLaren again for a second season,” said Kell. “I’m really looking forward to making the step up to GT3 along with my team-mate Simon. We have been working well together on the few days we have shared so far and pushing our programme forward for 2022. I look forward to working with him and seeing him develop in British GT.”
He’s joined by GT3 debutant Watts who has spent the last two years contesting MSVR’s Ford Focus club championship. However, his CV also includes notable historic motorsport outings in high-powered prototypes and low grip touring cars.
“I am incredibly excited to be racing in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship this year and feel extremely privileged to be doing that with the successful and professional Team Rocket RJN along with the up and coming young pro, James Kell, in the McLaren 720S GT3,” added Watts.
Theirs is the fifth full-season Silver-Am pairing to be officially confirmed so far, as well as the 16th GT3 entry.
“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with James Kell who did an excellent job for us last season alongside Jordan Collard,” said team principal Bob Neville. “We would also like to give a very warm welcome to Simon Watts who has joined the team and the championship for the first time. Both drivers have had their first tastes of the GT3 recently and adapted extremely well. We are all really looking forward to hitting the track at Oulton Park in a few weeks to kick off the championship.”
Season 30 of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship begins at Oulton Park on April 16 & 18.
