Angus Fender is returning to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship and Century Motorsport this season to partner Betty Chen aboard the team’s new BMW M4 GT3.
The 21-year-old last contested the series and class with 2 Seas Motorsport and McLaren in 2020 after racing Century’s GT3 and GT4 entries a year earlier.
He also entered a handful of Britcar races with Praga last season after his British GT Esports Championship exploits helped land him a factory sim racing contract with one of BMW’s top esports teams, BS+ Competition.
However, Fender’s only British GT connection this year looked set to be with a similar Viper Competition Coupe that claimed 2008’s title. He scored a British Endurance Championship class victory with it at Oulton Park two weeks ago.
Now, though, he has bang up to date machinery at his disposal after becoming one half of the seventh Silver-Am crew to feature on this year’s 17-strong full-season GT3 entry list. Sky Tempesta’s race-by-race entry means eight will compete at Oulton this weekend.
“It feels great to be returning to Century Motorsport for 2022,” said Fender. “After a year out focusing on my degree, returning to the top-flight of national competition feels amazing. When the opportunity to race for BMW’s factory sim racing team came about I never really believed that I’d also be driving the real M4 GT3 so soon after its launch. I’m really excited to see how BS+ Competition’s example compares to Century’s when we hit the track for the first time later this week. I’m still pinching myself about the opportunity!”
Season 30 of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at Oulton Park this Easter weekend (April 16 & 18).
