Optimum eyeing British GT return with new McLaren Artura

Former Intelligent Money British GT champion Optimum Motorsport is assessing a full-season return next year with McLaren’s new Artura GT4.

Shaun Goff’s outfit won the GT3 drivers’ crown with Flick Haigh and Jonny Adam in 2018 and last contested the series full-time in 2020 before making sporadic senior class appearances over the following two years.

Its final GT4 campaign came in 2019 with McLaren whose all-new Artura replaces the ultra-successful 570S next season. Goff confirmed to DailySportsCar.com back in September that Optimum had ordered two Arturas for use in several series, including - potentially - British GT.

Optimum’s international GT programmes, most notably under the Inception Racing banner with Brendan Iribe, have taken precedent since then. But while that global outlook looks set to continue, Goff is also eager to return to the team’s domestic roots with a potential two-car effort.

“The new Artura GT4 is an exciting addition to the fleet and having enjoyed many successful years in British GT, a championship that is very close to my heart, we’re really happy to announce our intent to be back next year,” he said.

“We were a prominent British GT entrant between 2012 and 2020, and are now looking forward to the prospect of racing on home soil full-time next season with the Artura GT4s.”

British GT’s entry process officially opens on December 2. A maximum of 36 full-season entries can be lodged across both classes, although additional spaces will be available at rounds where pitlane space allows.
