TORA British GT: Dunn at the double in the Ardennes

TORA British GT: Dunn at the double in the Ardennes

Callum Dunn maintained his stranglehold over this season’s TORA British GT Championship by claiming both victories at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend.

The series’ second cross-Channel trip of the season threatened to produce a different pole-sitter for the first time in 2016 thanks to real-life British GT driver Alex Reed. However, as has been the case throughout the campaign Dunn found a little more time late in the session to claim his sixth-straight pole, while just under a second covered positions third to eighth.

It was a similar story in the first race of the weekend with Reed valiantly chasing but never able to challenge the McLaren MP4-12C, which maintained its 100% winning record.

Behind, Rob Donoghue - who started third in his VIR backed Porsche - dropped back following early contact and a subsequent lengthy pitstop. That allowed Neil Tanner to pick up his first TORA British GT podium for the Cerrsoil Mercedes squad in only his second outing.

Mike Eyles also impressed for Ginetta with a season-best fourth place following a race-long battle with Matt Hunter’s Cyber Racing Aston Martin Vantage.

The second race followed a similar pattern at the front with Dunn leading Reed throughout.

While the duelling McLarens took off into the Ardennes sunset, behind Hunter led a train of five cars fighting for the final podium spot. The majority of the group pitted on lap six, leaving Dino Silenzi to give chase for a while, before the same battle featuring Hunter, Eyles, Donoghue, Tanner and Ambrose resumed over the closing laps.

Hunter ultimately held on to record his first GT podium for two years ahead of Donoghue who profited from Eyles’ scary off under braking at the Bus Stop.

Once again GT4 was dominated by the South East Coast Racing Ginettas which picked up a pair of one-two finishes.

Snetterton plays host to the penultimate TORA British GT Championship round on July 24.
