Jetstream Motorsport’s Graham Davidson believes expectations have shifted since the team’s performance at Rockingham, with victories and podiums now a clear target for the remainder of the season.
GT Cup’s reigning champion was named Blancpain Driver of the Weekend in his and the team’s second British GT appearance last time out after surging from ninth to second during the opening stint. The #47 Aston Martin then led at the start of the second hour with Maxime Martin aboard before a drive-through penalty for track limits violations ultimately consigned the crew to fifth overall.
However, while the final result was scant reward for their pace, Davidson was still buoyed by the Bruntingthorpe-based squad’s overall performance against British GT’s established GT3 order.
Finishing outside of the top-three has also ensured the crew enter this weekend’s first 60-minute contest at Snetterton – where Aston Martins have won four of the last seven races – without a pitstop penalty.
And, for Davidson, that means a top-three has to be the target.
“The pace we possessed at Rockingham and in testing at Snetterton inspires confidence and, having now led a race on merit, Jetstream Motorsport has to shoot for wins and podium finishes from now on,” he said. “It’s impossible and frankly unwise to underestimate the competition in the British GT Championship, but – and I’m not saying it’s going to be easy – I don’t see any reason why we can’t fight at the front once again at Snetterton.
“Jetstream Motorsport has taken huge strides with the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 with incredible support from Aston Martin Racing, and Maxime [Martin] and I have really gelled as team-mates, to the point where we can be one of the strongest pairings on the grid. Everybody involved with the team was buoyed by our performance last time out and coming so close to victory really whet the appetite. We crave wins and we have every reason to be positive.”
Two free practice sessions and qualifying kick off British GT’s third round of the season on Saturday before a pair of one-hour sprint races take centre stage on Sunday. Both will be streamed live on British GT’s Facebook page and website, but there’s no substitute for actually being there!
