Century confirms Kimber and Mathiassen for second BMW M4 GT4

Jacob Mathiassen and Mark Kimber have completed Century Motorsport’s British GT4 line-up ahead of the championship’s opening round at Oulton Park next weekend (April 20 & 22).

The duo will race the reigning Teams’ and Drivers’ champions second BMW M4 GT4, which has been joined this year by a pair of M6 GT3s.

#42’s driver crew mixes GT4 experience with youth. Kimber, from Solihull in the West Midlands, makes his car racing debut following an incredibly successful karting career. Indeed, the 17-year-old ended 2018 as X30 Euro Series Champion having won the British Super 1 National Senior OK and World Rotax Junior titles in the previous two seasons. It’s an exceptional feat only matched by McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris.

“I am excited to get started in the M4; having talked with the team they all seem very friendly and I’m sure we will have a good relationship throughout the season,” he said.

“This will be a new experience for me having not shared a car with someone before or competed in any form of endurance racing so it will be a challenge for me first of all learning the car and the tracks but I am confident that myself and the team will get on well. I am looking forward to meeting my team-mate this year Jacob and hopefully learning off each other to progress throughout the year.”

Mathiassen, who hails from the same Danish town – Hobro – as record Le Mans 24 Hours winner Tom Kristensen, returns to British GT after making several GT4 appearances with Century in 2017 before spending last season contesting his native Danish Thundersport Championship. The 25-year-old also finished second with the Fenny Compton-based squad in 2016’s Britcar Endurance Championship.

“It is really great to be back with Century Motorsport. I feel we have some unfinished business from 2016 and 2017, where only some bad luck prevented us from winning together,” he said. “Now, defending the Teams’ Championship from 2018, it feels amazing to be back working with Nathan and the team. The atmosphere is electric in anticipation of what we are going to do together this year; we really feel we can be at the sharp end of the field with the always-enjoyable BMW M4 GT4 car.

“I enjoy being paired with Mark Kimber, who is a really cool prospect. He has thoroughly proved his skill through karting, and I am certain we will work well together - hopefully I can help him transition to car racing, and I know he will help push my performance as well. It really could not be a more perfect setup for me for the 2019 season, and I just cannot wait to deliver fantastic racing, both at trackside, and for TV or streaming viewers. I am ready to give it my all.”

Kimber and Mathiassen join Angus Fender and Andrew Gordon-Colebrooke in Century’s two-car British GT4 programme, while 2018 class champion and runner-up, Jack Mitchell and Ben Green, spearhead the team’s GT3 entry.
